How to get paid online in Egypt

Stripe isn't available for businesses in Egypt. Here is what works instead, depending on what you sell.

What's specific to Egypt

Currency: Egyptian pound (EGP). Last updated 2026-10-20.

Egypt moved to a flexible exchange rate in March 2024, and most freelancers now rely on receiving accounts rather than PayPal.

  • On 6 March 2024 the Central Bank of Egypt let the pound float. It lost more than a third of its value against the dollar that day, narrowing the gap with the informal market. Source: Egyptian Streets — flexible exchange rate
  • PayPal accounts in Egypt are mostly useful for paying. Receiving business payments and withdrawing them to a local bank remains restricted, according to local payment companies. Source: XPay — PayPal in Egypt
  • Payoneer is widely used by Egyptian freelancers to receive USD, EUR and GBP and withdraw to a local bank. Withdrawal fees and currency spreads apply. Source: XPay — PayPal in Egypt
  • InstaPay, the central bank's instant payment network launched in 2022, handles transfers between Egyptian bank accounts — useful once your money has reached Egypt. Source: Wamda — InstaPay launch

What to do, by goal

Sell digital products

You can sell digital products from Egypt today, without a foreign company.

  1. Lemon Squeezy — Sells for you, handles tax, and pays out to your local bank.
  2. Payoneer — Handy to receive and convert your payouts.

Get paid by clients

In Egypt, freelancers usually get paid through a receiving account.

  1. Payoneer — Give clients and marketplaces receiving details in USD, EUR or GBP, then withdraw locally.
  2. PayPal — Only if your account is allowed to receive and withdraw — check first.

Run a SaaS

For a SaaS in Egypt, a merchant of record is the fastest start.

  1. Paddle — Built for software subscriptions, open to sellers from most countries after review.
  2. Lemon Squeezy — A lighter alternative with no approval wait for small products.
  3. Stripe Atlas — Later, when revenue justifies yearly US company costs.
  4. Firstbase — An alternative to Stripe Atlas for forming that US company.
