Wise Business for a US LLC owned from abroad

Updated November 2, 2026

Many founders who form a US company abroad use Wise Business next to, or instead of, a US bank: it gives the company account details in US dollars and other currencies, and converts money at the mid-market rate with a visible fee. Here is what Wise's own pages say for US businesses, read on 2 November 2026.

What Wise asks for

  • The company's legal name, type and US tax ID (EIN).
  • Every person who owns 25% or more or controls the company, with name, date of birth and address. Owners who don't live in the US and don't hold a US passport give a photo ID instead of an SSN.
  • Directors' names, dates of birth and countries of residence.
  • Wise says it can't onboard businesses from Nevada or US territories.

The address question

Wise asks for two addresses. The registered address can be your registration agency's address. The trading address must be a physical place where the business operates (office, co-working space or home), and Wise doesn't accept PO boxes, registration agencies or mail-forwarding addresses for it.

If your company has no US office, ask Wise which trading address to give before you apply: its help page doesn't cover that case in detail.

What it costs

  • Opening a US business account: free.
  • Getting account details to receive money: a one-time fee of 31 US dollars.
  • No monthly fee and no minimum balance, according to Wise's US page (last updated 31 July 2026).
  • Conversions and transfers have their own fees, shown before you confirm.

How it fits with Stripe

  • Stripe pays out to the company's US dollar account details.
  • From Wise, the company can pay you as the owner, in a currency and country Wise supports. Keep a record of each owner payment for both countries' taxes.
  • Mercury is the other common choice, but it doesn't serve founders living in some countries (for example Nigeria, Pakistan and the Philippines). Check both lists.
